Jamghat

Do me a favor before reading this, go have a look at your own photograph, one of you as a child. Think back, did you imagine becoming an actor or a pilot?? Were you dreaming of living in the biggest house? What worries did you have other than being allowed to play with friends?

Now imagine a child who cannot play with friends because they are working at a traffic signal from the day they are born. Imagine a child who sleeps on a different road every night, who can’t understand why his father beats him or why his mother refuses to love him….

Imagine all such children coming together and uniting their strengths, experiences and determinations with the guidance of well meaning individuals, to try and lead a Life that will give them, if not their childhood, at least an empowered adulthood through which they realize their own dreams.

You have just thought of “Jamghat”.

Jamghat is a registered NGO that offers opportunities for street children and society to come together and make a positive change in each other’s lives. Jamghat provides an opportunity for children to leave the streets, be educated and receive vocational training while sharing their stories with volunteers. These volunteers come to offer guidance, care and organize empowering workshops for the children.

Through Theatre, Nightwalks, a Residential Home and Day Care Centre, the goal of Jamghat is to build respect for street children within society until the ‘street’ identity is removed and the children are active participants in a world that previously chose to ignore them.

Never doubt that a small group of committed individuals can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has ~Margaret Mead
