Saddam – 5 years old



• Was found and relocated from Jama Masjid in November 2007
• Is currently attending the Mira Public School
• His family consists of a mentally disabled mother, two sisters who stay in Jama Masjid, and one brother, Arbaaz, who also lives in Jamghat.
• After abandoning the family, their father has recently returned into their lives.
• A smart and intelligent young boy, Saddam loves studying, drawing, playing carom and eating Maggi.
• Has deep respect for all elders, enjoys a good reputation with his teachers at school, and absolutely refuses to go back to a life on the streets.
His Aspiration:
To grow up to be a Good Human Being


Arbaaz – 10 years old



• Was found and relocated from Jama Masjid in September 2007, Saddam’s elder brother
• Is currently attending the Life Center Academy and regular tuition
• His family consists of a disabled mother, two sisters who stay in Jama Masjid, and one brother, Saddam, who also lives in Jamghat.
• After abandoning the family, their father has recently returned into their lives.
• A responsible and loving boy, Arbaaz loves taking care of his younger brother Saddam.
• He is extremely bright and shows immense dedication towards his studies.
• Is a chess aspirant and protégé , the current champion at Jamghat.
His Aspiration:
To support his family.


Prasenjeet – 11 years old



• Originally from Siliguri, Prasanjeet was sent to Jamghat by Sahara NGO, in January 2008 when their shelter in Jama Masjid closed down.
• Is currently attending the Life Center Academy and regular tuition.
• Prasanjeet’s only living relative, his grandmother, continues to live in Siliguri.
• An intelligent young boy, Prasanjeet is whole heartedly committed to his studies.
• He is full of energy, so much so that he often gets in trouble with the elders! However this energy is also responsible for his charm on the stage with Jamghat Theatre!
His Aspiration:
To be literate!


Shabaaj – 12 years old



• Originally from Delhi, Shabaaj was found and relocated from Jama Masjid in April 2008.
• Is currently attending the Life Center Academy.
• A runaway from home, Shabaaj was subjected to physical torture by his father. His elder brother, Aman, also stays at Jamghat.
• Abused harmful substances prior to joining Jamghat. Has since left the habit.
• Shabaaj loves both cricket and carom.
• Almost always is the last one to go for a bath in the morning!!!
• Is eager to learn and faithfully does his homework each night
His Aspiration:
Wants to grow up to be a painter.


Aman – 14 years old



• Originally from Delhi, Aman was found and relocated from Jama Masjid in January 2008.
• Is currently attending the Life Center Academy.
• A runaway from home, Aman was subjected to physical torture by his father. His younger brother, Shabaaj, also stays at Jamghat.
• Abused harmful substances prior to joining Jamghat. Has since left the habit.
• Is willing to return home, provided that he is guaranteed a safe and supportive environment.
• Extremely talkative and vivacious, so much so that he often is encouraged to to keep quite!
• Wants to study further and loves painting, singing, dancing, watching Hindi movies and drawing tattoos on himself.
His Aspiration:
Wants to join the Army when he grows up


Ravi (Imran) – 17 years



• Joined Jamghat in September 2007.
• Family consists of father, elder brother, 2 younger brothers, and a younger sister.
• Ravi left home when he was 9 years old because his father used a lot of drugs, often accused him of being a thief, and told him he’s not a good child.
• He lived with other organizations (Pariyas) over the years, and in between at Jama Masjid or CP.
• Through his life, Ravi made a living as a ragpicker, as a beggar, and as a tent house worker. He admits he used to steal clothes from markets when he didn’t have the money.
• Abused harmful substances prior to joining Jamghat. Has since left the habit.
• Ravi is an excellent artist, and spends a lot of his day drawing and painting.
His Aspiration:
To be a painter and open up another Jamghat


Anwar – 18 years old



• Originally from Aligarh, Anwar was found and relocated from Jama Masjid in October 2007.
• Has completed his hotel training.
• Prior to Jamghat, Anwar used to live and work on the streets. He has one sister who is married and lives in Aligarh.
• Abused harmful substances prior to joining Jamghat. Has since left the habit.
• Three years back, Anwar’s leg was injured very badly by a passing truck. When he arrived the injury had still not healed because he lacked any medecines or sterile bandages and could not take care of it. Since arriving, his hygiene and personal care changed drastically, he received the appropriate surgery and is now able-bodied and healthy!
• Anwar worked as a dentist assistant for 6 months after joining Jamghat.
• Is currently on the lookout for a job
• Is quite boisterous, loud and very protective of the younger ones!
His Aspiration:
Dreams of becoming a cook


Ali – 18 years old



• Originally from Bihar, Ali was found and relocated from Jama Masjid in November 2007.
• Has only a surviving father, who remarried after Ali’s mother passed away.
• Has completed vocational training in Stitching.
• Is now taking modern dance lessons.
• A very creative boy, Ali loves painting and dancing
• An extremely avid cricketer, loves to bowl and captain his team to victory!!
His Aspiration:
To become a tailor master and a dancer


Roshan – 18 years old



• First came to Jamghat in 2005, and has since returned home for 2 years.
• Prior to Jamghat, Roshan lived in Aashray Adhikar Abhyan, he has never lived on the streets.
• His family consists of 1 sister and 4 brothers of whom he is the eldest, father, and mother. They are still in his hometown of Gorakhpur, UP.
• Roshan left home because his father beat him.
• He has formal education up to 4th grade and has learned to stitch ladies garments in another NGO, Deepalaya.
• Likes to listen to eat and listen to Hindi music!
• Is thoughtful, caring and has an affinity towards the small garden on the Jamghat balcony!
His Aspiration:
To live a simple life!


Rajan – 19 years old



• One of the oldest residents in Jamghat, Rajan was found and relocated from Hanuman Mandir, CP in 2003.
• Has completed his training in Maurya Sheraton, in the Galley Dept.
• Rajan came to Delhi when he was 4 and his first memories are of living at the Delhi train station. He is unaware of any surviving family.
• Since 2003, Rajan has lived 1.5 years working in Bangalore.
• Rajan, since joining Jamghat, has also trained to be a cook.
• Rajan makes delicious food and loves playing Chess.
• Is currently looking for employment.
• Would like to learn martial arts and gives constant proof of this by practicing his moves on everyone around!
His Aspiration:
To become a professional cook


Ravinder – 19 yrs



• Joined Jamghat in August 2007.
• Family is in Maharganj, UP, and consists of 3 brothers, 1 sister, mother, father, dada and dadi.
• Ravinder was 11 years old when he left home because his father beat him.
• He first went to Mumbai for 2 years, then to Goa for 6 months, before moving to Hanuman Mandir, CP, Delhi.
• Worked in a food shop.
• Abused harmful substances prior to joining Jamghat. Has since left the habit.
• Has formal education to 8th grade and speaks very good Hindi.
• He is proud of his job as an office boy with Ozone Network Private company where he makes 3,190/-.
• Ravinder enjoys cricket and karate!
His Aspiration:
To get a good job


Rahul – 22 years old



• Rahul is one of the oldest residents in Jamghat. He was in the first play in 2003 and has returned to his family many times since then.
• Family is in Bihar: 2 sisters, 2 brothers, mother and father.
• Rahul got married recently and is very proud of his one year old baby boy! This family is also in Bihar. After working as an office boy for a bit longer, he hopes to move his family to New Delhi.
• Prior to 2003, Rahul lived in Jama Masjid area. Then he abused harmful substances, but has not touched them since joining Jamghat.
• Was 10 years old when he ran away because of a verbal fight with his father.
• Rahul is a very hard worker and extremely responsible. He will soon move out on his own.
His Aspiration:
He is happy with his job because it is a permanent position, paying him 3,100/-
